Big Jim

Generate a list of 7-9 words you would use to describe Jim in terms of his beliefs, actions, and feelings.

Superstitious, Uneducated, Rebel, Childish, Conformist, Gullible, Adventurous, Hardworking.

Generate a list of 3-5 words you would use to describe Jim in terms of his physical appearance.

Tall, Strong, Skinny, Black.

In some pictures, Jim is painted by himself, or along side Huck and Tom and there is one picure of Huck, Jim, and men with guns. In the pictures of Huck, Jim, and Tom, Huck and Tom are sitting around Jim as if Jim and telling a story. In the picutres of just Jim and Huck, they are either on their skiff, or on the floor listening to Jim's magical ball of fur. In some pictures Jim looks young and hard working, and others he looks almost childish, and in others, he looks like an old man holding buckets of water. In some pictures, Huck in holding a gun, and Jim looks scared so its like Huck has all the power in some pictures. Jim is shown through stereotypes In some pictures he looks dirty, and hes constantly on his knees.

One of the words I used to descirbe Jim was superstitious. In this picture, Jim is asking a ball of hair to read the future of Huck. Jim believes in good luck and bad luck, and he thought that the ball of hair pulled from the stomach of an animal was able to read the future if he was paid.

The word that goes against the word I used: Hardworking. I pictured Jim as a strong Hardworking man, but we can see that in this picture, he is being lazy and checking out a young girl.

The imgae that best illustrates the text of the novel is the image of Huck and Tom sitting next to Jim. Huck and Tom look very interested in what Jim is saying and Jim looks happy becuase he has a smile on his face. Mark Twain's words represent Jim as a character becuase according to Huck, Jim is the most looked up to "nigero", and in that picture, it looks like Huck and Tom are looking up to him.
