The Wounded Knee Massacre took place in the late 1880. A new religion sprung up that caused many Native American's to take huge interest in. The religion was called Ghost Dance which told the Indians that they would be free form the white man. This brought up some concern with the government who then decided to step in. While trying to prevent a dance at Wounded Knee, around 200 Sioux Indians were killed including Chief Sitting Bull, and around 25 cavalry men were killed. It is not truly known how the violence erupted, but evidences shows that the U.S army used unnecessary violence. The Wounded Knee Massacre was the last of the American Indian wars, but it left a large dent in the Indian population.
