Wounded Knee: Part 2

The Battle of Wounded Knee rests at the bend of Wounded Knee River. Immediately following the battle, a mass grave was dug to hold the bodies of the fallen. At the top of the hill, behind the church is a cemetery where a grave about 80 feet long and surrounded and marked with a giant cross to represent those who died in the battle of Wounded Knee. The monument reads "This monument is erected by surviving relatives and other Ogallala and Cheyenne River Sioux Indians in Memory of the Chief Big Foot Massacre Dec. 29, 1890". Creating a monument was a good idea, it truly honored those who died in the battle even though they died for no real purposed.
